Projects

The following is a list of the various projects and gifts we have sponsored in the past, as well as those that are underway currently.

Monterey Bay Marine Space Station
Grant 2015-1 (31 December, 2015)

Help organize, develop and promote an educational program combing the volunteer effort of leading schools, scientists, and engineering and scientific organizations in the Monterey Bay area showcasing the amazing creativity and accomplishments of interdisciplinary teams of high school students doing marine research and engineering.

Digital Media Distribution Service Supporting Free Public Access to Content Marketing and Distribution Channels
Grant 2014-1 (31 December, 2014)

Grant 2013-1 (31 December, 2013)

Grant 2012-1 (31 December, 2012)

Grant 2011-1 (31 December, 2011)

Grant 2010-1 (31 December, 2010)

Grant 2009-1 (29 December, 2009)

Grant 2008-1 (23 December, 2008)

Design and develop prototype software for a new digital media distribution service to complement the publication and licensing service funded previously. It is expected that the development of a distribution service will do much to enable the practical deployment of the publication and licensing service, helping significantly to make the promise of free public access to content marketing and distribution channels by means of the internet a practical reality.

Digital Media Publication and Licensing Service Supporting Free Public Access to Content Marketing and Distribution Channels
Grant 2007-1 (27 December, 2007)

Grant 2006-1 (22 December, 2006)

Grant 2005-1 (21 December, 2005)

Design and develop prototype software for a new digital media publication and licensing service which allows free public access to content marketing and distribution channels that are currently locked up by a relatively small number of largely inaccessible, media giants. Much as the world-wide web has created a revolutionary expansion of public access to information, the service is envisioned to support free and open access for authors across the world, those with large budgets and small, to get the same widespread distribution of their work, to reach audiences of incredible size, and to receive an unconventionally large share of the resulting revenue. It is expected the service will promote a revolutionary change in the economics and ease of use of digital content, providing enormous benefit to both content authors and content consumers.

Heifer International Domestic Animal Gifts
Gift 2005-2 (20 December, 2005)

A gift of various domestic animals selected from the Heifer International Gift Catalog.

Providing Television Viewers an Alternative Content Stream for Educational Purposes that is Concurrent with the Normal, Commercial Program Stream
Grant 2004-1 (29 December, 2004)

Define a reference hardware platform suitable for the home with which an alternative content television stream may be made available concurrently with a normal, commercial program stream. Define a baseline software distribution that operates on the reference hardware platform suitable for ongoing development of open source software relevant to the goals of this grant. Publish both the reference hardware platform definition and the baseline software distribution, placing them both into the public domain. A report will be generated describing the project and its results.

Feasability of Constructing Brackish Water Wells with Solar Powered Purification for Irrigation Purposes on the Coastline of the Big Island of Hawaii
Grant 2003-1 (31 December, 2003)

A brackish water test well will be constructed on the coastal flood plain of the Kohala Coast on the island of Hawaii. Studies will be made of the salinity of the water in the well as a function of depth, both statically, and while drawing water at a rate consistent with the well’s operational use. The purification necessary for irrigation purposes will be evaluated. The economic cost of solar powered purification to the extent necessary for irrigation purposes will be evaluated. A report will be generated covering the construction and analysis.
